SpotOn is a continuous year long program for elementary students to master their Math Facts. Much like a spelling or phonics program, SpotOn sets out a list of facts to be taught and focused on for one or two weeks. Teachers then have a range of research based activates to choose from and should spend 5-10 minutes each day focused on that weeks facts. SpotOn was developed based on best practices, teacher feedback and relevant research. SpotOn provides printed materials, visual activities, games and much more for the teacher to choose from. SpotOn is not a memorization program, it is a fluency program. The focus is on giving students practice being flexible with numbers, strategies to work efficiently with their facts, connections between the different math facts, and enough exposure to form strong brain pathways. Our goal is to provide excellent resources for teachers so that they can give their students focused instruction and practice in this foundational math skill.
SpotOn activities are research based to support fluency. The four foundational pillars of fact fluency are flexibility, efficiency, accuracy and automaticity. Spot on was designed to help students grow specifically in these four areas.
Flexibility - Students learn to approach each set of facts from many different angles. They will explore their relationships, visually group, physically count and play!
Efficiency - Our resources are strategy based. Teaching the best way to solve each problem.
Accuracy - Students are not rushed, they are given ample practice to repeatedly take the right steps.
Automaticity - Mastery takes time and should be reached through an understanding of number relationships. Our program follows a well thought out timeline. SpotOn provides enough resources and time for students to master these relationships.
SpotOn uses games to help reinforce the math facts and strategies students are learning. Not only do students enjoy playing SpotOn games but they increase fact retention, explore number sense concepts, and gain focused practice. Some games are found in our teacher resource books and others will be shared in videos here and on our social media page. Don't forget to follow us at https://www.facebook.com/SpotOnMathFacts/.
